Winter Passing (Adam Rapp)

Winter Passing is a very sombre drama from theatre director Adam Rapp. The very charming Zooey Deschanel plays the offspring of two very brilliant writers. She's an actor in NY and is having dealing with the recent suicide of her mother. This movie wallows in sadness and depression. Just when you think it couldn't get more bleak there is a scene where Zooey's character drowns her terminally ill kitten in the Hudson. Prozac please. But seriously this movie was very well acted. Great performance by Ed Harris as the writer father. What's likley to get the most press is the dramatic turn by Will Farrell. It's a little hard to accept him in this kind of role. Granted there are some intentionally funny moments and scenes, but sometimes his presence took away from the film. Like you wanted to laugh just because it was him. I think it's a bit of stunt casting and takes away from the film.
